Video resumes are the latest cutting-edge tool in a job seeker's arsenal. Spurred by the combination of widespread broadband Internet usage, higher-quality video technology and increased enthusiasm for online video sharing, these videos are becoming a must-have item for serious candidates.
"We believe that video resumes are now taking off, and we are providing this free service to enable job candidates to produce a professional quality video resume," said Wendy Duarte, Bluewolf's Director of Permanent Placement. "There has been a lot of buzz about companies like YouTube, Facebook and Monster as platforms for video resumes, but we are the first company to embrace the concept of helping people create a professional video profile to help them land a job."
The experts at Bluewolf have put together five tips to help job seekers create a professional video resume:
- Prepare what you want to say but don't sound canned.
- Keep video length to approximately two or three minutes.
- Dress professionally, consider wearing a suit, and keep jewelry to a minimum.
- Use language carefully, avoid grammatical errors, slang and lots of "uhs" and "ahs."
- Practice, practice, practice! Do a dry run before capturing a resume on video.
Duarte added, "Video resumes lend themselves well to IT positions, which is our expertise, as the potential employer has a high level of sophistication when it comes to technology. For those sorts of positions, we counsel candidates to develop a video resume that stresses technical capabilities as well as their functional expertise."
